We're filling a big need for generative AI built ground-up for the needs of enterprises and embraced by their teams. As generative AI became a board-level initiative almost overnight for most enterprises, our market matured dramatically and we benefit from that tailwind. 📐 About this role

Do you want to help build and scale a commercial legal function from the ground up? Have ideas about novel ways to approach legal and commercial terms you’ve always wanted to try, but never have had the chance to? Do you enjoy thinking at a strategic level and rolling up your sleeves to get things done on the ground? Then look no further - this might well be the role for you. We are looking for our first head of commercial legal who will report directly to our General Counsel and work together to build and scale Writer’s commercial legal function differently. Let’s break the mold together, not be afraid to think differently, and have some fun building something special.

🦸🏻‍♀️ Your responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of commercial matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating in-bound and outbound commercial agreements - SaaS experience is a must-have

  • Build templates and playbooks that don’t just rinse and repeat old legal and commercial positions and that can adapt to the evolving legal, AI landscape

  • Create thoughtful processes that benefit the business (not just legal) for how we support our internal stakeholders that will grow and scale

  • Develop success metrics to help the commercial legal function take a date-informed approach to our work

  • Support our partnerships team as they continue to build out Writer's strategic and channel partnerships function

  • Enable and train our go-to-market teammates by giving them practical advice and guidance

⭐️ Is this you?

  • 10+ years of experience where you’ve spent the majority of time working in-house supporting a SaaS-based platform

  • Law degree from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the U.S.

  • You are a business person first that also happens to be a lawyer

  • You’ve seen what it takes to successfully scale and grow a legal team within a high-growth business, and you have opinions on what to repeat and what to avoid

  • You have experience supporting teams both in the United States and abroad

  • You know how to bring people along with you and are a great communicator

  • Prior management experience is a plus

  • You are curious, reliable, like to move fast, and have a low ego
