Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data / Database Engineer (SQL Server) to design, build, optimize, and support enterprise-grade data platforms and database systems. This role partners closely with application engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to ensure data is reliable, secure, performant, and scalable across both transactional and analytical workloads.

Based in India, this position strengthens our global engineering model by providing extended development and production support coverage across time zones. The role is hands-on and delivery-focused, with direct ownership of data pipelines, database performance, operational reliability, and platform optimization for business-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain complex SQL Server databases, schemas, and data models.
• Define and implement indexing, partitioning, and storage strategies aligned with business and performance requirements.
• Analyze and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and execution plans.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database performance using DMVs, Extended Events, and monitoring tools.
• Build and support ETL/ELT workflows using SQL Server–based technologies (SSIS or equivalent).
• Partner with application, analytics, QA, and product teams to support transactional and analytical workloads.
• Ensure database reliability, availability, security, and compliance standards.
• Manage backup, recovery, retention, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Support CI/CD processes for database development and deployments.
• Participate in on-call or operational support rotations as required.
• Document database architecture, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to developers and junior engineers.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016 or newer).
• Advanced proficiency in T-SQL, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
• Strong experience with indexing strategies, performance tuning, and concurrency control.
• Experience designing and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines (SSIS or equivalent).
• Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL, or similar).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work effectively with distributed and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with cloud-based SQL Server platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or similar).
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Dynamo.
• Exposure to data warehousing, analytics platforms, or large-scale reporting systems.
