Engineering Manager

FabFitFun is looking for a Senior Manager, Engineering to join our Engineering team! This role will report to our SVP, Engineering. Ideal candidates love to design, build, and operate domain-driven backend systems, and have 4+ years experience building and managing software teams.
Location: FabFitFun is based in the Greater Los Angeles area in West Hollywood,CA.
What You’ll Do:
- Define the architectural strategy for the systems you own and contribute to architectural vision for the platform at large
- Introduce new technology and design patterns where you believe they can help power the business
- Implement flexible, domain-driven solutions that balance expediency with long-term flexibility
- Provide consultation for non-technical leaders and clarity around technical decisions
- Mentor, coach, and sponsor your team(s) of engineers
- Set quantitative and qualitative goals for the team and hold them accountable to achieve those goals
- Establish standards and best practices on your team for testing, software delivery, observability, contract definition, etc.
- Refine processes for the team – judge when to add or remove processes to streamline the team without drowning them in red tape
- Build relationships with other leaders in Technology and Product and leverage those relationships to enable your team
- Participate in sprint related meetings such as standup, grooming, retrospective, and roadmap replenishment
- Encourage a culture of experimentation, prototyping and brainstorming across technical and non-technical teams
- Technical contributions such as prototyping, code reviews, incident response, and so on
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
- 6+ years of experience as a software engineer, building and operating production systems at scale
- 4+ years of building, managing, and nurturing software teams
- You have a lot of experience with Java, Python or similar languages
- You love to design, build, and operate domain-driven backend systems
- You’ve worked in agile-ish systems, kanban systems, and more importantly hybrid systems
- You’re good at demystifying complex technical concepts for laymen and love to simplify complex ideas for curious teammates
- You’ve worked in teams with diverse communication styles and know how to nurture that diversity as a team strength
- You already can’t live without continuous delivery and know how to drive your team towards small, frequent deployments
- You know how to tune up observability up and down the stack
- You know how to use goal-setting to align company strategy with your teams’ work
- You know how to find the growth edge for people on your team, including your own
The expected base salary range for this position is $200-220K + bonus. The compensation package will also include an initial equity grant, in addition to a range of generous medical, dental, vision and other perks & benefits. Compensation decisions are determined using a variety of job-related factors such as skill set, geographic location, market demands, experience, and education / certifications.
