About 8Fleet:

8Fleet is hiring. 8Fleet is a rapidly growing LA based technology and logistics startup building the operational infrastructure for both autonomous and non autonomous rideshare fleets. With our anticipated growth, we're searching for a Senior Manager, Safety, Risk & Compliance to protect our expanding W-2 driver workforce and build safety and risk programs that scale with us.

About the Role:

Reports To: Head of People

Location: Los Angeles, CA

The Senior Manager, Safety, Risk & Compliance leads 8Fleet's environmental, health, safety, workers' compensation, injury management, and risk compliance programs across our high-volume W-2 driver workforce and operating locations.

This role partners closely with People, Operations, Fleet, Legal, and external vendors to reduce workplace and driving-related risk, ensure regulatory compliance, manage employee injuries and claims, and build scalable safety programs as 8Fleet grows into new markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety & Risk Management: Own company-wide driver and workplace safety programs, policies, training, audits, and risk-reduction initiatives across all operating locations.

  • Workers' Compensation & Injury Management: Lead the workers' compensation and employee injury process, including injury reporting, claims oversight, investigations, return-to-work programs, accommodations, and coordination with employees, managers, and external partners.

  • Incident & Accident Management: Oversee workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, safety incidents, and near misses; conduct root-cause analysis and partner with Operations on corrective and preventive actions.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other federal, state, and local workplace safety requirements, including required programs, training, documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping.

  • Background Checks & Drug and Alcohol Screening: Own pre-employment and ongoing background check and drug and alcohol screening programs for the driver workforce. Manage screening vendors and turnaround times, maintain consistent adjudication criteria and escalation paths, and ensure compliance with FCRA, state and local fair chance requirements, and applicable DOT and non-DOT testing protocols, including post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and return-to-duty testing.

  • Driver Safety: Partner with Operations and Fleet leadership to identify driver safety trends, reduce preventable accidents and injuries, and establish consistent safety expectations across the driver workforce.

  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships and performance for workers' compensation, occupational health, safety, screening, claims, and other risk-related vendors. Ensure vendors meet service expectations, compliance requirements, and business needs.

  • New Market Launches: Lead safety, screening, and risk compliance readiness for new operating locations, ensuring required programs, training, vendors, processes, and controls are established prior to launch.

  • Metrics & Reporting: Monitor key safety and risk indicators, including workplace injuries, workers' compensation claims, vehicle incidents, lost-time injuries, screening and background check throughput, training completion, and corrective actions. Provide leadership with regular reporting on trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.

Successful Candidates Will Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Workers' Compensation, Transportation Safety, or related fields.

  • Experience supporting a large hourly, driver, logistics, transportation, or multi-site workforce strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA, workers' compensation, injury management, and workplace safety requirements.

  • Experience managing workers' compensation claims, employee injuries, return-to-work programs, and external vendors.

  • Experience administering background check and drug and alcohol screening programs, including FCRA, fair chance, and DOT or non-DOT testing requirements.

  • Strong incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and risk-reduction experience.

  • Ability to build scalable programs and processes in a fast-paced, growing organization.

  • Strong communication and partnership skills across frontline employees, operational leaders, vendors, and senior leadership.

Compensation:

Base Salary Range: $130,000–$140,000
